Waterloo Region Needs
People Who Care

We are a grassroots volunteer-based community group dedicated to building and maintaining Waterloo Region as a welcoming, safe, and inclusive community for refugees and immigrants.

“Refugees didn’t just escape a place. They had to escape a thousand memories until they’d put enough time and distance between them and their misery to wake to a better day.”

- Nadia Hashimi

Join Us To Celebrate World Refugee Day in Waterloo Region

Recognize

World Refugee Day, annually on June 20th, recognizes the courage and strength of people forced to feel their homes.

Reflect

World Refugee day is a chance to reflect on our community’s stories of journeys made.

Celebrate

In Waterloo Region, World Refugee Day shifted from a single event into a month-long community effort to celebrate our Region’s rich history of offering refuge to people fleeing their home countries. We invite you to join us in reflecting our annual theme, “Becoming Neighbours.”

“My experience with CCORIC opened me to a wider team of people and groups who work with refugees and immigrants. From politicians to pastors, imams to people with simply a community interest, we have kept the doors open to the strangers among us, and worked as teams with new people, until none of us are strangers. Beautiful!”
